This is a very important week because it's the last week of the grading period and we are assessing ALL week long.  We were on the computer right up to the dismissal bell today.

Study, study, study spelling words at home this week.  The test will be Friday and it will be a tradition spelling test....just spelling the words.  This is no spelling homework this week.

Practice, practice, practice on the five-minute addition facts worksheet.  This Friday's score will be the one that goes on the report card.  We'll start on the subtraction facts along with the addition facts after fall break.

FALL BREAK IS NEXT WEEK :)  One-fourth of the school year is about to be over.  Time if flying!

We had a wonderful field trip "Around the Town" this past Friday.  We wrote about it in our journals today.  I hope your child told you ALL about it!

FRIDAY IS OUR "AROUND THE TOWN" FIELD TRIP. Please send your child in tennis shoes.  If your child is bringing a lunch from home, please send it in a throw away bag and do not send their usual lunchbox.  It's suppose to be a beautiful day and we expect to have a fantastic field trip!

Only two more weeks until fall break!  Where, oh where, does the time go?  I will be scheduling report card conferences in the near future.

Be sure to ask your child about collective nouns.  We worked on them most of the day!

Also, there is a note in the green folder if your child is going to Mrs. Jackie's math groups.

The fire safety poster project for Mrs. Popplin is due by Monday, September 30.

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

The fire safety poster is a contest, I believe, but it's also just an assignment from Mrs. Popplin.  I wasn't in the room during her instruction, so you'll have to question your child.  It is due October 1st.

I will be out until next Wednesday...hate to miss, but have to.  I told the children and they know I expect a good report for each day.  We are working sooooo hard.  I'm proud of them.

Study spelling and practice math facts tonight.  A few have to finish their wordsearch for tomorrow.  They wrote it down on the planner.

Parents, would you please check over your child's spelling homework each week, please?  They're turning in papers that are either not complete or incorrect.  I've been over and over the directions, so I'm asking for your help.

Also, this past Friday's five minute addition facts "quiz" was not good. Please practice every night on either + or -.  We have started working on subtraction facts, too.

Thanks to most of you for returning the field trip permission forms.  Please do so as soon as possible.

Mrs. Popplin, the art teacher, gave the students a homework assignment today.  It has to do with National Fire Safety Rules.  Please make sure that your child completes and returns this to me by October 1.

I've had conferences or meetings each afternoon this week, so I've not remembered to write on my blog.  I apologize.

The spelling test is tomorrow.  Just a couple of reminders about spelling.  First, the last two words (this week they're want and come) are the "reading words" that are referred on the homework sheet.  They are also spelling words! Second, The top part of the homework paper should be cut off and kept at home when the bottom part of the paper is turned in. Third, don't forget to practice using and making sentences with the spelling words.

Our one-minute and our five-minute addition facts are definitely improving.  Your child soooooo needs to practice every night to build up confidence and speed.

OUR FIRST FIELD TRIP IS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27!!!!!!  There will be a permission slip coming home the first of the week.  Sorry, we won't be taking parents this time.  We're hoping our class t-shirts will be in so that we can wear them that day, but there is no guarantee.

OPEN HOUSE IS THURSDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 26.

We are in need of more healthy snacks next week.  Remember, no peanuts or peanut oil!

If you read this, please write me a note in the planner tonight :)

Tomorrow is:  spelling test, five minute addition facts, and CLASS REWARD TIME!!!  The children made a list of possible rewards and chose bringing hand-held electronic games to play the last hour of the day.  I told the kids that they had to have your permission and be willing to share with classmates who might not have one to bring.

I still do not know about parent helpers.  When I get it figured out, I'll let you know.  Thank you for being patience with me.

Your child is bringing home a wish list from the book fair.  I "went nuts" finding good books for my grandchildren!  Come check it out!

We've moved on to working on the +10 addition facts at school.  Your child should know the +0, +1, and +2 addition facts quickly and easily.  Please continue to practice the 100 basic addition and 100 basic subtraction facts at home.

We earned the 40th marble today, soooooo, there is a class reward to be discussed and agreed upon tomorrow.  We'll do whatever on Friday afternoon (hopefully).

Friday marks the halfway point of the first nine weeks!
