This week's spelling test will be on Thursday, and there will be only 14 words again.  (I've had several students tell me that they would not be here on Friday.)  Also, the only homework is tonight's--no sentences this week.

B List:  clean, cleaner, cleanest, small, smaller, smallest, cold, colder, coldest, loudly, useful, careless, say, says

C List: safer, bigger, funnier, carrier, hardest, littlest, easiest, wonderful, beautiful, closely, finally, sleeveless, say, says

As with last week's words, I suggested to the kids to learn to spell the base word first, and then add the suffix to it making changes to the base word when necessary.

Tomorrow we will have an eight minute subtraction practice

December 9--Second grade goes to The Nutcracker.   This will not cost us anything and only students may go.

Thanks so much to all the parents who went on the field trip this past Friday.  We really enjoyed The Lost Sea!  Hope you did, too!

You will notice that some your the students are now on a "C" list of spelling words.  I've also had to cut back for some students from 20 words to 14 words in order to try and get their spelling grades to improve.  This week our spelling test will be on Thursday and everyone will take only 14 words.  This is due to the field trip on Friday :)

B words: unbutton, unafraid, unfair, unkind, unlock, unwrap, refill, repay, rewrite, dislike, misspell, pregame, been, her

C words:  unaware, uncertain, unselfish, uncommon, untangle, unscramble, review, recycle, research, dishonest, misbehave, preschool, been, her

I told the children to learn to spell the "base word" and then add the prefix before it.

There will be no spelling homework Thursday night of this week.

As of today, 3 students still need to bring in their permission slips and $12 donations for the field trip this Friday.  I NEED THESE BY WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13.  Nine adults plus myself are going!  Please wear old tennis shoes and bluejeans.  The dirt inside the cave is red and usually wet. The buses will leave at 8:45 and will return by 2:00.  Parents, I suggest that you carpool to The Lost Sea (exit 60, I believe, on I-75).  You will need to order your own lunch.  My class, along with Mrs. Durham and Mrs. Smith's, will be eating at McDonald's rather than Burger King.

If any mom or grandma would like to lead our class in making a homemade Christmas ornament, please let me know by next week.  (You would be responsible for providing the supplies.)

Just a reminder:  When I send home the stapled papers, please sit down with your student and go over these.  Often, I do write notes AND it helps you to be aware of what your child is learning in school and whether or not they are getting it.

Don' forget the food drive for The Caring Place ends this Friday.  Our class has brought in 59 items...let's bring 59 more!

P.S.  I love your child....We have a great group of Whiz Kids!

Spelling homework is different tonight, but we did two together today and there's an example at the top so I think the students will do okay.  Please keep the whole paper with the letter-value chart at the bottom.  More than likely we'll use it next week, too.

Everyone is taking the B list this week:  brick, check, flock. nickel, pocket, lucky, fork, shark, drink, skunk, milk, ask, house, there, dollar, penny, cents, dime, quarter, money

Practice addition and subtraction facts.

FIELD TRIP permission form / information paper is in the green folder.

Our annual canned food drive is under way here at Yates throughout the Thanksgiving season.  We give the food to The Caring Place.
